About Camellia Palms
The Gulf Coast's Luxury Small Group Retreat Center
The Lake House at Camellia Palms has stood on the shores of Lake Jackson for 140 years. The property was one of the first homes built in Florala and the only private venue for rent on the lake today. Guests frequently tell us that it's like "taking a step back in time." When you're here, you'll find yourself enjoying the stunning pink sunsets over the lake and walking among our shaded palms.
Our historic home allows you to find relaxation with our quality bedding and spacious suites, to gaze out the windows, and take short, enjoyable walks into downtown Florala to coffee shops, restaurants, antique stores, and gift shops.
The crystal clear ocean water of Destin and Fort Walton Beach, Florida is less than an hour's drive. Enjoy the beach's white sands and soak up the sun -- we are just across the state line from Florida! Surf, watch dolphins, taste local seafood, and all of your other favorite beach activities are just a short trip away.

One Family's Southern Revival
We're a mother-daughter business team, originally from the South and happy to be back!
Our search for the 1880s J.N. McClean estate, known as The Lake House at Camellia Palms, began more than 10 years before we opened our venue with one artist & quilter, Tabatha, and her dream to own a quilt retreat venue. Tabatha experienced joy of gathering with friends and creating beautiful quilts, works of art, while relaxing away from home.
Every part of a retreat was the real getaway - the planning, booking the retreat house, cutting fabric and gathering projects to take, cooking meals, arriving, sewing - and then counting down the days until the next retreat after it was all over. The retreat couldn't happen yet though; the last ten years were a family whirlwind of college, weddings, job changes, moving across the country to Seattle, until finally the right time and right place came along.
In 2018, Tabatha approached her daughter Taylor with the idea of becoming business partners on a retreat. Taylor said yes with two conditions: it had to be somewhere warm and it had to be a historic property in a small town. "Small towns are the beautiful, old souls of America," Taylor said. With a strong record of business success and rural redevelopment awards in hand, Taylor was ready to throw her passion for forgotten towns and business into this new project. After nearly 6 months of searching for the right property basically everywhere south of the Mason-Dixon line, The Lake House at Camellia Palms became an exciting new venue for peaceful getaways and creative retreats.
And, so, our story is about returning to our Southern roots and sharing a place where memories and creativity happen.
